Disabled access

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the British Embassies in the UAE are keen to ensure that our buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible, we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations we will endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at the British Embassies in the UAE. We hope this information is helpful.

General physical access
  • Entrances: We can arrange for wheelchair users to enter the Embassy compound via the vehicle entrance at the main gate.
  • Steps and staircases: All public areas are on the ground floor, however there a small number of steps leading up to the main entrance and a single step up to the consular and fast track visa reception area;
  • Ramps: Permanent ramps provide access to the main reception area and the main visa reception area;
  • Toilets: All public toilets are on the ground floor but we have no special toilet facilities for wheelchair users or those with limited physical mobility;
  • Parking: There are no parking facilitie at the Embassy. The public car park opposite the Embassy has been closed for the development of the Khor Dubai Project. Parking can be found on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street or near the Saudi Embassy on Al Seef Road.
  • Floor coverings: floor coverings are safe and even;
  • Doors: All doors are wide enough to allow access for wheelchair users, but are difficult to open by the wheelchair users or those with limited physical mobility without help;
  • Lighting: Most areas of the Embassy are well lit, although there is limited natural light in the visa reception area;
  • Emergency/evacuation: Staff are on hand to assist disabled visitors in the event of an emergency;
